Israeli strike on Iran results in two soldiers' deaths
An Israeli attack on Iran has resulted in the deaths of two Iranian soldiers.
The news was reported by Iranian media citing data from the country's Armed Forces, per Caliber.Az.
The assault occurred on the night of October 26, involving aircraft targeting surface-to-air missile systems, air defence facilities, and production sites linked to rockets that have been launched at Israeli territory over the past year.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) indicated that over 100 aircraft participated in the operation from a distance of 2,000 kilometres.
In response to the strike, Iran asserted its right to retaliate, referencing obligations under the UN Charter.
“The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime (Israel - ed.) against military centres in Iran and considers them as a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, namely the principle of refraining from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of other countries,” the ministry's statement reads.
It said, "Iran, based on the inherent right to legitimate defence, which is also reflected in Article 51 of the UN Charter, considers itself entitled and obliged to defend itself against acts of foreign aggression.”
U.S. and Western countries' support for Israel's “criminal acts” is the cause of instability in the Middle East, the ministry said.
The MFA further noted that support from the U.S. and Western countries for Israel's actions contributes to instability in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, European Union member states are currently discussing potential responses to the Israeli attack. A diplomatic source in Brussels revealed that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is consulting with member countries to evaluate the implications of the strike and to formulate coordinated actions.
