Israeli forces expand military presence in southern Syria Intensify tensions in Al-Quneitra
Israeli forces have continued their incursion into Syrian territory, advancing further into the southwestern Rif Dimashq region.
On December 18, UK-based The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) sources reported that Israeli armored vehicles, accompanied by soldiers, reached the summit of Mount Hermon, establishing a new military position on the slopes, overlooking the area, Caliber.Az reports.
Israeli forces also advanced nine kilometers into the Daraa countryside, entering the Kuya village and the vicinity of the Al-Wehdah historic dam near the Syria-Jordan border. They have stationed themselves in strategically important areas, following warnings to local residents to surrender any weapons in their possession.
Additionally, Israeli forces entered the 74th Battalion area near Sayda village, located on the administrative border between Daraa and Al-Quneitra provinces, marking a new breach in southern Syria.
On December 19, SOHR sources reported that Israeli forces issued a two-hour ultimatum to the residents of Al-Ba’ath city in Al-Quneitra, demanding they surrender their weapons or face a military assault. In preparation for possible entry, Israeli forces removed earthen berms surrounding the city. This development has raised tensions in the region, with local residents anxiously awaiting further developments as the deadline approaches.
