Israeli officials warn of protracted conflict with Hezbollah as rocket attacks continue
For two weeks, Israel has been bracing for a massive attack from Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing German newspaper Bild.
It appears that the extensive terrorist group Hezbollah, which is controlled by Tehran and based in Lebanon, is also expected to join the fight. Since October 8 last year, Hezbollah militants have been regularly launching rocket strikes against Israeli territory.
Now, they are threatening not only to bombard all of Israel but also to initiate a ground operation.
In a new video featuring threats, Hezbollah militants displayed dozens of rocket launchers mounted on trucks. These are hidden in large underground tunnels and are ready to be quickly deployed into firing positions.
The video also shows M302 rockets, which have a significantly greater range than the Katyusha rockets that Hezbollah has used so far to target northern Israel.
Yakov Selavan, Deputy Head of the Regional Administration on the Golan Heights, told Bild that Hezbollah's rockets have been hitting farms over the past ten months, burning large areas of agricultural land.
"It is completely unclear when the situation will improve. Many families are likely not to return here. The Golan is our home. If we leave the region, it will send a fatal signal. It would be a victory for the terrorists," he said.
Israeli Brigadier General Ronen Cohen, who is currently preparing reservists in northern Israel, believes that the war with Hezbollah could last two to three years.
"The war against Hezbollah must be waged now. Otherwise, the terrorist organization will grow even stronger—and its attacks will be even more destructive to Israel. They have already forced residents out of major cities like Kiryat Shmona. Next time, they will try to infiltrate such cities. If Israel does not act first, Hezbollah will strike, as they have repeatedly declared," Cohen noted.
