UK commits to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities in drone sector

On August 26, 2025, Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal met with top British military officials to discuss deepening cooperation in defence, particularly in the production of drones.

Shmyhal shared the update on his Telegram account, noting, “I held an important meeting with the Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, Admiral Anthony Radakin, and Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Richard Knight.”

The Ukrainian defence minister highlighted the United Kingdom’s continued substantial support for Ukraine amid the full-scale war and its readiness to expand defence collaboration. T

The discussions centred on the immediate requirements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with a focus on boosting the production of key drone models in partnership with British industry. Industrial collaboration under the Build with Ukraine initiative was also a key topic.

Special emphasis was placed on international efforts to establish effective security guarantees and the work of the “coalition of the willing,” which aims to secure a lasting and just peace.

Shmyhal and his British counterparts also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting, to be held in the Ramstein format in London this September.

The Ukrainian defence minister expressed gratitude to the UK for its leadership and steadfast support in Ukraine’s efforts to counter Russian aggression.
