Israeli PM sets red lines for any Iran deal, citing global security stakes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that any potential agreement with Iran must include several key conditions, which he considers crucial not only for Israel’s security but also for the United States, the region, and the world.
In this context, Netanyahu outlined Tel Aviv’s five conditions for any agreement between Iran and the US, chief among them the destruction of Iran’s nuclear program, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“The first is that all enriched material has to leave Iran. The second is that there should be no enrichment capability – not stopping the enrichment process, but dismantling the equipment and the infrastructure that allows you to enrich in the first place,” the premier said.
Netanyahu identified a third component as a resolution on Iran’s ballistic missile program, stressing that there is an MTCR limitation of 300 kilometres, which Iran is supposed to adhere to but does not.
The fourth, Israeli PM said, was the complete dismantlement of Iran’s “axis of terror,” referring to resistance groups across the region, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and Ansarallah.
Finally, he called for “effective, substantive, no lead time” inspections on all matters related to the Israeli conditions, “in perpetuity."
Netanyahu’s comments come after reports stating that the US and Israel agree on targeting Iran’s oil sales to China, which make up over 80 percent of Tehran’s exports.
“We agreed that we will go full force with maximum pressure against Iran, for example, regarding Iranian oil sales to China,” a US official told the outlet.
Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump signed an order threatening tariffs on countries that engage in trade with Iran.
US sanctions were also applied to the Iranian oil sector, following the first round of Omani-mediated talks between Washington and Tehran.
A second indirect meeting is planned for 17 February in Geneva.
