Italian Prime Minister expresses concern over Middle East instability
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni voiced deep concern over the escalating situation in Iran, describing it as part of a broader crisis linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“The Iran war is a cause of great concern in a season of crisis born of the Ukraine war,” Meloni said, ANSA reports.
“I am concerned about the overall context: a crisis in international law that is inevitably the result of the war in Ukraine. When a member of the United Nations Security Council deliberately attacked its neighbor, it was inevitable that it would lead to a season of chaos,” she added.
Meloni called on Iran to halt its “unjustified” attacks in the Gulf, emphasizing the need to prevent the crisis from spreading.
“The government is currently committed to providing assistance to the thousands of Italians who are stranded, particularly in the Gulf countries. We are in contact with those countries, we are in contact with our European partners,” she said.
“The goal is obviously to prevent the crisis from spreading, but I think nothing can get better if Iran does not stop its attacks on the Gulf countries, which are totally unjustified,” the Prime Minister concluded.
