Italy becomes Azerbaijan's top trading partner in early 2025
In the first two months of 2025, Italy emerged as Azerbaijan's leading trading partner, accounting for over a quarter of the country's total trade turnover.
Azerbaijan's trade with Italy reached a significant $2.3 billion during January-February, marking a 24.6% increase from the same period last year, or an additional $450.1 million. This brings the share of trade with Italy to 25.59% of Azerbaijan's overall trade turnover, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Customs Committee.
Türkiye followed closely in second place, with trade between the two nations amounting to $1 billion by February 1. This reflects a 2.5% rise, or an increase of $25 million, compared to the previous year.
Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover for the period amounted to $8.9 billion, showing a year-on-year increase of $1.7 billion, or 23.2%. Of this, exports contributed $4.8 billion, while imports totaled $4.1 billion, representing an increase of 69.2% for exports and a slight decrease of 0.3% for imports.
The trade balance for the period stood at a positive $628 million, although this figure is notably lower compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting a decrease of $1.7 billion, or 3.7 times less.
