Italy’s defence minister: No European country warned before attacks on Iran
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto apologised for his trip to Dubai, where he was stranded due to Iranian attacks on Gulf countries in retaliation for US and Israeli military actions, and said no European country was informed in advance about the strikes that triggered the disruption.
Speaking in parliament alongside Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Crosetto briefed lawmakers on the situation in the Middle East, Caliber.Az reports via Italian media.
MPs, however, questioned the reason for his presence in Dubai and demanded an explanation.
“I publicly announced that I was travelling to Dubai, and staying there was my decision. Perhaps I erred as a minister, and I apologise, especially because my two children were there and I wanted to be with them,” Crosetto said.
He clarified that no European or Arab country received prior notice of the attacks. “This happened because the Americans departed not at the planned time, but when they were certain the main target would be hit,” the minister added.
