Japan, US to discuss intensification of export control at talks
Japan and the US intend to discuss the intensification of export control and other measures to address the forced labour problems during the upcoming 2+2 economic consultations in late July in the presence of ministers responsible for economy and foreign policy.
This also refers to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, TASS reports referring to Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.
The US has previously banned the supply of cotton products from the Japanese Uniqlo stores, considering that forced labour in Xinjiang could be used in their production.
Japan and the US intend to develop a common mechanism for export regulation to respond to such situations.
The intensification of supply chains and manufacturing capacity for semiconductor production due to global shortages should be another topic for discussion.
The food security issues and the global rise in energy prices are also on the agenda.
The economic consultations are expected to be held in Washington on July 29.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Hagiuda Koichi, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will participate in consultations.
