Israeli opposition leader calls for end to Gaza conflict
Yair Lapid, head of Israel’s opposition, publicly urged a cessation of hostilities in Gaza, asserting that the ongoing military campaign is no longer yielding favorable results for Israel.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Lapid emphasized the need for a strategic reassessment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.
“Leadership needs to know to change course when the current strategy has stopped working,” he wrote. “The war is not going anywhere.”
Lapid proposed a significant shift in Israel’s approach to the Gaza Strip, suggesting that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) withdraw from most of the enclave. He advocated for Egypt to assume administrative responsibility for the territory.
“The IDF must be deployed at the perimeter, separating between the Strip and the Gaza border communities,” he added.
While Lapid acknowledged his previous support for the military campaign, he stressed that the current strategy has failed to advance Israel’s interests. “While I supported the war in the past, it’s not working in our favor anymore,” he stated.
