TikTok blogger exposes ICRC’s donation misuse in Germany Photo
Popular German TikTok blogger known as Moe has exposed questionable handling of donations collected by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bavaria.
In a covert experiment, Moe placed a pair of sneakers fitted with a GPS tracker into a street-side donation box operated by the local ICRC office, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Tracking data revealed that the sneakers traveled nearly 800 kilometers across several countries — from Germany through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and finally to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Upon noticing that the shoes had stopped in the town of Jajce, Bosnia, Moe visited the location and discovered the sneakers for sale in a second-hand store.
When questioned, store employees explained that the merchandise was supplied by Bosnian business owners residing in Germany and denied that the items were donated. Ultimately, Moe repurchased the very sneakers he had donated for just 10 euros, after receiving a discount.
This investigation sheds light on a disturbing practice: donations intended to help those in need are instead diverted and sold as commercial goods. While thousands of donation bins in Germany collect clothing for charity, a portion of these items appear to be resold abroad rather than distributed to vulnerable layers of population.
