Serbian PM chooses Egypt for first official visit, citing non-aligned values
Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut has defended his decision to make Egypt the destination of his first official foreign visit since taking office, emphasising the importance of Serbia's long-standing relationship with the North African country and their shared commitment to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement.
He explained that the visit was a deliberate gesture reflecting Serbia’s dedication to an independent and balanced foreign policy, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“It is fundamentally important for us to reaffirm, together with the Arab Republic of Egypt, our shared commitment to the principles embodied by the Non-Aligned Movement — especially because these principles reflect the values of humanism, justice, equality, and solidarity among nations,” Macut said.
“This is the kind of foreign policy that both Serbia and Egypt pursue: independent, sovereign, and aimed solely at serving the well-being of their citizens.”
The prime minister also highlighted Egypt’s consistent support for Serbia’s positions on key international issues, particularly in relation to Kosovo and Metohija — a region at the center of Serbia’s territorial integrity concerns.
“We highly value Egypt’s stance on these matters,” he added. “Moreover, we see significant potential for further expanding economic and trade cooperation between our two countries.”
