The government of Japan has decided to extend its aid package to Ukraine by providing an additional $2.57 million in the form of winterization assistance to the electric power sector through the UNHCR.
As Japan's ministry of foreign affairs reported on its official website, the assistance will include the provision of generators and solar lanterns for Ukraine which is facing large-scale blackouts caused by the destruction of large parts of its energy infrastructure facilities by Russia’s attacks.
Some 250 electric generators and several hundred lighting and heating systems will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky said, according to Music News First.
All deliveries are coordinated with the relevant ministries and departments of Ukraine.
This is only the first tranche of emergency assistance, a new package is expected by December, the ambassador noted.
In addition, Korsunsky said, preparations for the dispatch of a second container with a “very necessary cargo of humanitarian aid” collected by the Ukrainians of Japan and the Ukrainian embassy are at the final stage.
