Kazakh flag raised in New York to mark Republic Day
The flag of Kazakhstan was raised on New York’s Wall Street in a ceremony marking the country’s Republic Day, Kazakh media reported, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event featured the official proclamation from the Mayor of New York City designating Kazakhstan Heritage Day, timed to coincide with the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The ceremony brought together representatives from the New York City Mayor’s Office, the diplomatic corps, Kazakhstan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the Consulate General in New York, as well as members of the Kazakh diaspora and student community.
According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, “special significance” was attached to this year’s celebration due to the proclamation signed on behalf of Mayor Eric Adams, which was described as a gesture of respect toward Kazakhstan and recognition of the Kazakh community’s contribution to the cultural and social fabric of New York City.
“The proclamation symbolises the strong bonds of friendship between Kazakhstan and the United States, reflecting New York’s commitment to mutual respect and international partnership,” the ministry said.
Charles Diamond, Special Advisor on International Affairs to the Mayor, delivered remarks on behalf of the city authorities. He praised the Kazakh diaspora for its role in fostering cultural dialogue and expressed support for expanding cooperation between New York and Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan’s Consul General in New York, Rauan Tleulin, also addressed the gathering, thanking the Mayor’s Office for its continued cooperation and support. He emphasised that the issuance of the proclamation was an important gesture of friendship and recognition of the Kazakh community’s growing contribution to the city’s social life.
Special attention during the event was devoted to Kazakhstanis living in the United States, whose activities have helped strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Republic Day, celebrated on October 25, is Kazakhstan’s only national holiday. It marks the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty in 1990, a milestone that paved the way for the country’s independence.
