Kazakhstan ratifies Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan green energy partnership agreement
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law ratifying an agreement on strategic cooperation in the production and transmission of green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
The text of the law has been officially published. The agreement was originally signed by the leaders of the three countries on November 13, 2024, in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
The document establishes a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation in clean energy and energy efficiency, based on legal equality between the parties. It also envisions joint projects for the production and trade of environmentally friendly hydrogen and ammonia, as well as the creation of unified technical and administrative frameworks to ensure reliable cross-border transmission of renewable electricity.
Among its key provisions, the agreement outlines coordination on technical and commercial standards to guarantee uninterrupted green electricity flows, the introduction of energy-efficient technologies, and the development of infrastructure to support energy exports to Europe and other regions. It also includes support for expanding domestic power grids and exploring potential connections to the Black Sea Energy subsea electricity cable project.
The framework further provides for the establishment of a Steering Committee operating on a parity basis, which will meet at least twice a year, as well as a Working Group responsible for developing annual cooperation plans. It also sets out confidentiality rules for information shared under the agreement and establishes procedures for dispute resolution through consultation and negotiation.
