Kazakhstan's president offers to host Ukraine talks in call with Trump
Kazakhstan has expressed willingness to provide a venue for negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
According to the President’s Press Service, Tokayev acknowledged the complexity of achieving a settlement, noting that territorial issues remain central and require compromises from all sides, taking into account the realities on the ground.
“President Tokayev stressed the difficulty of resolving the Ukrainian conflict, where territorial matters are dominant and demand concessions from both parties, considering the real situation on the ground,” the statement from the Kazakh presidential press service said.
While emphasising that Kazakhstan does not act as a mediator, Tokayev indicated that the country is prepared to host talks if necessary, in a spirit of goodwill.
He called on all parties involved to demonstrate patience, flexibility, and professionalism in pursuing a peaceful resolution.
Trump said he had held “two wonderful telephone calls” with the leaders of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on December 23, emphasising the importance of peace and cooperation.
The discussion was about “the importance of bringing Peace to ongoing conflicts, and increased Trade and Cooperation between our Nations.”
“The relationship with both Countries is spectacular,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth.
The US President also confirmed that both leaders would be invited to next year’s G20 Summit in Miami, describing it as “a very important event.”
