Kyrgyzstan to build 200 km of border fences along Afghan frontier
Kyrgyz authorities have announced plans to construct hundreds of kilometres of engineering barriers along the country’s border with Afghanistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The announcement followed a meeting of the operational headquarters on demarcation and anti-smuggling measures along the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, chaired by State Border Service head Abdikarim Alimbaev and the presidential envoy in the region, Aybek Shamenov.
Officials reviewed progress on reinforcing border lines and instructed all relevant agencies to ensure timely and high-quality completion of tasks.
In 2025, nearly 150 kilometres of engineering fences were installed. For 2026, construction is planned for 200 kilometres:
-
65 km along Batken District
-
135 km along Leylek District
Participants emphasised the importance of coordination and strict adherence to deadlines. Measures to identify illegal transport, secure high-risk zones, prevent damage to infrastructure, and maintain installed barriers were also highlighted.
Additional instructions were issued to enhance public safety and ensure the readiness of all services, taking into account the security situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
