Lithuania to convene national security commission after drone incident
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has announced the convening of the National Security Commission following a drone crash on the country’s territory, according to a post on Facebook.
The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, will focus on the circumstances of the incident, information gathered by authorities, and possible next steps. The wreckage of the drone was discovered on May 17 in a field in the Utena district.
Preliminary assessments suggest the drone may have belonged to the Ukrainian side.
“We must clearly understand the cause of these incidents — it is the war against Ukraine initiated and continued by Russia, which directly affects the security situation in the region,” the prime minister said.
She added that Lithuania and its NATO allies continue to strengthen monitoring and response systems to such threats, stressing that there are currently no signs of an immediate danger to the population.
