Lukashenko officially takes office as president of Belarus
Aleksandr Lukashenko, who was re-elected as president of Belarus in the January 26 elections, has officially taken office for his seventh term.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Independence Palace in Minsk, marking a significant moment in Belarusian politics, Caliber.Az reports citing Belarus media.
During the event, Lukashenko took the presidential oath in the Belarusian language, placing his right hand on the Constitution of Belarus. In his oath, he pledged to faithfully serve the people of Belarus, uphold and protect the rights and freedoms of its citizens, and observe and defend the nation's constitution.
Following the swearing-in, Lukashenko signed the official document confirming his assumption of office. The Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, presented the newly inaugurated president with a presidential certificate.
The inauguration was attended by over 1,100 guests, including Belarus’ top government officials, members of all three branches of power, political figures who supported Lukashenko during the election, National Assembly members, and representatives from various political parties and public organizations. Religious groups and the media were also present.
After the inauguration ceremony, a separate event took place on the National Flag Square, where Belarusian servicemen took an oath of allegiance to both the president and the people of Belarus. The ceremony occurred near the Independence Palace, symbolizing the country's commitment to the newly sworn-in leader.
According to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Lukashenko won the January presidential election with an overwhelming 86.82 per cent of the vote.
