Majority of French citizens concerned about Middle East conflict Poll shows
A recent survey indicates that 87% of French citizens are concerned about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to polling firm Elabe for BFMTV.
Key reasons include fears for domestic security and rising fuel prices affecting purchasing power, Caliber.Az reports.
The survey found that 44% of respondents said they are “very concerned,” up from 32% in a previous poll conducted on March 18.
Meanwhile, 12% reported feeling unconcerned, and 57% view the actions of Israel and the U.S. against Iran negatively.
Security concerns have intensified following recent events, including a foiled terror plot near the Bank of America in Paris and heightened security at Goldman Sachs headquarters due to threats from an Iranian group.
Similar threats have been reported in other European countries, including Belgium, the U.K., and the Netherlands.
In addition to security fears, rising fuel costs are a major worry.
The average price of diesel in France last week exceeded €2.18 per litre—the highest level since 1985.
About 67% of respondents anticipate possible gasoline shortages in the coming months.
The survey was conducted online from March 31 to April 1, 2026, among 1,000 adults living in mainland France, using quotas for gender, age, occupation, region, and type of locality.
