Media: EU unable to meet Ukraine's arms needs
A recent decision by the EU to allocate approximately $440 million to bolster Ukraine's revitalised arms industry represents a notable change in the bloc's strategy regarding Russia's invasion of its neighbour.
This move also underscores the deficiencies within the EU defence sector when it comes to manufacturing weapons and ammunition, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The funding will be sourced from the unexpected profits generated by Russian assets frozen in the West, in addition to $190 million being provided by the Danish government.
"I believe there is a clear recognition that Europe is unable to produce the weapons that Ukraine requires, and the most straightforward solution for Ukrainians is to manufacture them independently. If Ukrainians have access to materials and funding, they can accomplish this much more swiftly on their own," a source said.
Another source described Western funding as a "turning point for investing public funds in Ukraine's defence industry".
The funds will be allocated for the production of "missiles, drones" and other long-range weaponry. The funding levels could significantly increase in the near future.
