Media: Hamas reaffirms commitment to US as Gaza deal enters next phase
Hamas has agreed to begin laying down its heavy weapons as the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, brokered by US President Donald Trump, approaches.
Initial steps toward disarming the Palestinian militant group were agreed upon during recent discussions between mediators and Washington, Al Arabiya reports.
The sources added that Hamas has “renewed its commitment to Washington to end its rule over Gaza.”
As part of the second phase of the deal, Israeli troops are expected to withdraw from the Gaza Strip, while Israel has pledged to facilitate an increased flow of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
The developments signal progress in the ongoing efforts to stabilize Gaza, with international observers monitoring the implementation of the agreement and the disarmament process closely.
On October 9, 2025, Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire. The US-brokered deal includes the release of hostages and detainees, increased humanitarian aid, and a phased Israeli military withdrawal. While this development offers much-needed relief from two years of relentless bombardment, starvation, and mass displacement, there is a long way to go to sustainable peace.
Over the past two years, both Hamas and Israeli forces have been accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and other core international crimes.
