Media: Indonesia's Dukono volcano erupts, sending ash 3,000 metres into sky
On November 24, Indonesia's Mount Dukono volcano, located in North Halmahera, erupted, releasing an ash column that reached up to 3,000 metres above its summit.
Sarjan Roboke, an officer with the PGA monitoring Dukono Volcano, reported that the ash plume appeared white to gray, with thick intensity, and drifted west to northwest, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Indonesian news agency Antara.
The eruption was accompanied by a series of tremors, with recorded earthquakes lasting 4 minutes and 53 seconds and reaching a maximum amplitude of 27. The volcano, which stands at an elevation of 1,335 meters above sea level, remains at Level II (Alert) status.
Roboke advised local residents to avoid approaching within a 3-kilometre radius of the volcano’s peak and recommended wearing masks outdoors to guard against inhaling volcanic ash.
