Spain launches talks on producing Patriot missile components
Spain has begun negotiations with domestic defence companies to launch the local production of components for U.S.-made Patriot missiles, following the signing of a key cooperation agreement with American defence giant Raytheon.
According to sources cited by Mundo, the agreement between the Spanish Ministry of Defence and Raytheon was reached during the Feindef defence exhibition and marks a significant step in expanding Spain’s role in the NATO-integrated air and missile defence system.
“Spain is close to significantly increasing its industrial contribution to the U.S. Patriot missile programme thanks to an initial agreement to boost component manufacturing in the region,” the report states.
The move is expected to deepen industrial and strategic cooperation between Spain and the United States, while also enhancing Madrid’s defence manufacturing capabilities. Raytheon confirmed that talks with several Spanish companies are already underway and that new joint projects are under active consideration.
The Patriot system—long used by NATO allies—is a key part of Western missile defence architecture. Spain’s increased involvement in its production comes amid broader European efforts to strengthen defence readiness and supply chains in response to shifting global security dynamics.
