Media: Israeli prime minister actively mediating to ease US-Russia tensions
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly playing a behind-the-scenes role in attempting to de-escalate rising tensions between the United States and Russia, as the conflict in Ukraine continues to strain global diplomatic relations.
Sources close to the prime minister revealed on that Netanyahu has been “actively working to ease tensions between the United States and Russia,” with full awareness and support from US President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The report further confirmed that Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone on August 4— marking their second direct conversation in the span of a week. This flurry of diplomatic engagement appears to be part of a broader effort by the Israeli premier to prevent further deterioration in US-Russia relations.
The Prime Minister's Office has worked intensively in recent weeks to reduce tension between the two countries over the war in Ukraine, the sources stated.
Netanyahu’s office has reportedly engaged in a series of public and discreet communications with Russian officials in recent weeks, aimed at addressing “key issues” contributing to the growing rift between Washington and Moscow. The worsening relationship stems largely from Russia’s continued military campaign in Ukraine and a recent escalation involving the deployment of US nuclear submarines to the region, which has heightened tensions between the nuclear powers.
Amid these high-stakes developments, Netanyahu has taken on an increasingly proactive role. Two sources close to the Israeli prime minister said that President Trump had been fully briefed on both of Netanyahu’s phone calls with Putin and was informed of the discussions’ content.
