Media: US to maintain aid in Africa, boost investment in Asia-Pacific
The United States will continue providing assistance to African nations, including medical aid, while increasing investment in countries across the Western Hemisphere and the Asia-Pacific region.
An unnamed senior State Department official said that “Africa is going to continue to be a focus, but we’re going to invest more in the Western Hemisphere. We’re going to invest more in Asia-Pacific. We’re investing a quarter of a billion dollars in the Philippines, which is something we’re really, really excited about,” Caliber.Az reports via Semafor news platform.
The department’s official added that the amount of investment in specific countries will depend on incidence and welfare indicators, as well as the strategic location of the countries.
The United States has long provided foreign aid to African nations, supporting healthcare, economic development, and humanitarian relief programs to tackle poverty, infectious diseases, and regional instability. Programs such as PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) and USAID have delivered medical and developmental assistance across the continent.
