MFA: Azerbaijan strongly condemns terrorist attack on church in Damascus
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the June 22 terrorist attack on Mar St. Elias Church in Damascus, Syria, which left dozens dead and injured.
“We strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack on Mar St. Elias Church in Damascus, Syria. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence,” the ministry wrote on its official X account, Caliber.Az reports.
The ministry also expressed that it stands in solidarity with the government and people of Syria, “urging unity against extremism.”
The attack occurred during Sunday evening Mass on June 22, when a suicide bomber opened fire before detonating an explosive vest inside the packed church. According to Syrian state media, at least 22 people were killed and 63 others wounded. The assault marks the deadliest and first such attack on a Christian place of worship in Damascus in recent years.
