Michigan synagogue attack: Suspect identified as 41-year-old Lebanese-American
The suspect in the March 12 attack on a Jewish synagogue in Michigan has been preliminarily identified as 41-year-old Lebanese-born American citizen Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, according to three law enforcement sources who spoke to Fox News.
Sources said the man drove a vehicle into the synagogue building in West Bloomfield around 12:30 p.m. local time, then exited the car with a rifle and engaged in a shootout with armed security. He was shot dead at the scene.
Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun confirmed that the suspect lived in the city. He noted that earlier this month, the suspect lost several family members, including a niece and nephew, during an Israeli strike on their home in Lebanon.
Ghazali arrived in the United States around 15 years ago as the spouse of a US citizen and obtained American citizenship in 2016, according to sources.
The investigation into the circumstances of the attack is ongoing.
