Middle East crisis drives gas prices in US to peak under Trump PHOTO
The ongoing war in the Middle East has pushed gasoline prices to the highest level of President Donald Trump’s tenure, undermining one of his signature talking points on cheap fuel, CNN reports.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average for regular gasoline rose another seven cents on March 6, reaching $3.32 per gallon. This marks the highest average price of either of Trump’s two terms in the White House. The previous peak during his presidency was $3.27 per gallon on April 4, 2025.
Gas prices are now well above levels recorded on Election Day 2024 ($3.10) and when Trump took office in January 2025 ($3.13). The last time pump prices were this high was September 3, 2024.

While the current spike is notable, prices remain far below the record high of $5.02 per gallon set under former President Joe Biden in June 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Analysts warn that the trend could worsen affordability pressures for American households. In a research note on Friday, Bank of America stated that although lower gas prices have recently “aided affordability,” a sustained disruption to global energy shipping lanes could force consumers to “feel that squeeze at the pump.”
