NATO military committee to review missions, Ukraine war ahead of Ankara summit
The NATO Military Committee, the alliance’s highest military authority, is set to convene a meeting of Chiefs of Defence to discuss ongoing missions, operations, and the situation in Ukraine, according to NATO’s press service.
The meeting will bring together senior military representatives from all 32 member states, alongside NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexander Grinkevich and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Pierre Vendée.
It will be chaired by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expected to join later sessions.
According to NATO, the first session will focus on strengthening the alliance’s deterrence and defence posture, with General Grinkevich presenting an updated assessment of NATO capabilities. Participants will also review progress in ongoing alliance operations and missions.
In subsequent discussions, military leaders are expected to address NATO’s defence planning process, including efforts to integrate emerging technologies, innovation, and battlefield lessons aimed at accelerating capability development across member states.
A separate session of the NATO–Ukraine Council will include the participation of Ukraine’s Chief of Defence Staff. Talks are expected to focus on the situation on the front line, the broader global implications of the war, and continued support for Kyiv from NATO and European Union partners.
The meeting will conclude with discussions on NATO–EU cooperation, particularly in defence industry coordination, military mobility, and other strategic areas, as the alliance prepares for its upcoming summit in Ankara.
