New Paris mayor considers selling PSG stadium to keep club in the city
Emmanuel Grégoire, who succeeded Anne Hidalgo as mayor of Paris, intends to finalise negotiations over the Parc des Princes stadium—the home of Paris Saint-Germain—by the end of summer, he said on Franceinfo radio.
PSG has played at the 48,000-seat stadium since 1974 but has long struggled to reach an agreement with authorities on its modernization. Hidalgo had refused to sell the arena to the club, prompting PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to consider relocating to Stade de France or other venues.
“We have agreed with the PSG shareholder that we want to conclude negotiations no later than the end of summer,” Grégoire said, adding that the club’s main priority is to remain in Paris.
The mayor stressed that the city’s budget should not fund a professional club’s stadium and that the funds could be better used elsewhere. He said both a sale or a long-term lease of the stadium are possible options.
