North Korea issues "final ultimatum" to South Korea over drone incursions

11 October 2024 20:52

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has issued a stern ultimatum to South Korea, demanding an immediate cessation of drone flights carrying propaganda leaflets into its territory.

In response, the DPRK military has announced it will bring its offensive capabilities to full readiness along the border, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

According to a statement from the DPRK Foreign Ministry, “The Ministry of Defense, General Staff, and the army at all levels have begun preparations to respond to any developments in the situation. First and foremost, all offensive means designed to target the military infrastructure of the Republic of Korea and those stationed near the southern border will be put on standby to assume their duties at a moment’s notice."

The ministry noted that South Korea had dispatched drones to Pyongyang multiple times in October for the purpose of distributing political leaflets. “We issue a serious warning for the last time as an ultimatum,” Pyongyang asserted. “We demand an immediate halt to irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative actions that could lead to clashes and escalate into war.”

The DPRK emphasized that “there will be no second warning” if South Korea again “violates the DPRK's airspace with drones.” Diplomats from the People's Republic further stated that the Republic of Korea would face a “horrifying situation if it ignores” this warning. “The fuse is off the trigger. We are not the ones who will determine the timing of our attack. But we are ready for anything,” the DPRK Foreign Ministry declared, cautioning against “dangerous gambles that risk the lives of citizens” in South Korea.
