Tajikistan considers ending participation in International Criminal Court

Tajikistan’s Supreme Assembly has considered a draft resolution on withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC), the parliament’s press service said.

The document, titled “On Terminating the Operation of the Statute of the International Criminal Court,” was considered by the lower house of parliament, the Assembly of Representatives, at an extraordinary sitting on September 16, according to the statement.

“Following consideration of the above-mentioned issues, the relevant decisions were adopted,” the parliament’s press service said, without providing further details.

Tajikistan has been a state party to the Rome Statute of the ICC since July 1, 2002. Dushanbe signed the Rome Statute on November 30, 1998, and ratified it on May 5, 2000.

The statute entered into force for Tajikistan on July 1, 2002, the same day the Rome Statute itself entered into force.
