Nuclear weapons deployment in Finland hardly probable, says defence chief
06 October 2022 14:15
Finnish Defence Minister Antti Kaikkonen has said that Finland is unlikely to deploy nuclear weapons.
Kaikkonen made the remarks in an interview with the Finnish news service YLE this week.
However, after joining NATO, other options for the alliance's presence in the country will be discussed, he said.
The minister said that NATO membership does not oblige Finland to deploy nuclear weapons, troops and military bases on its territory, noting that Finland now prioritizes the very entry into the alliance.
Kaikkonen expects that joining NATO should, first of all, strengthen the country's security.
