Official: Trump approves Patriot missile transfers to Ukraine
Ukraine has secured full U.S. backing for its air defence, with President Donald Trump reportedly approving the transfer of Patriot missile systems to Kyiv, said Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Yermak noted that he could not disclose all details of the negotiations, adding that the most advanced systems are in high demand, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“Effectively, there is a long queue, but we are trying to stay as close as possible to the delivery window. The most important point is that Trump has given the ‘green light,’ so the remaining issues are mostly technical,” he said.
He also confirmed that Ukraine is actively participating in the U.S. PURL weapons procurement programme, which now includes 17 countries following discussions in Brussels.
“This was also supported by a strong public statement from U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Regarding additional weaponry, there was no definitive ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
Incidentally, Tomahawk missiles are far from the only option under discussion. Dialogue continues, and I wouldn’t say that door is closed,” Yermak added.
Following the recent meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in Washington on October 17, 2025, Ukraine secured full U.S. backing for its air-defence needs.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy described the tone as “positive” and said his team and Trump’s advisers spent “many rounds… for more than two hours” discussing Ukraine’s defence requirements.
However, while parts of the conversation reportedly grew tense as Trump urged Kyiv to consider “realistic steps” toward ending the war, the meeting nonetheless paved the way for Washington’s approval of Patriot system transfers.
Zelenskyy later confirmed that Ukraine was preparing a long-term contract to purchase 25 Patriot batteries, marking a major boost to its air-defence shield.
