Pakistan's PM lands in Qatar for key stop in diplomatic peace tour
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif visited Qatar as part of his regional tour focused on peace negotiations, expressing gratitude for what he described as an “exceptionally warm gesture” after Qatari fighter jets escorted his aircraft upon entering the country’s airspace.
Sharif said he viewed the escort as a reflection of “Qatari hospitality and the strength of bilateral relations.”
Sharif added that he discussed the regional situation, including developments in the Persian Gulf, with the Emir of Qatar, emphasising the need for de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue, according to Al Jazeera.
Both sides agreed on the importance of international coordination to maintain peace and stability. The Pakistani prime minister also condemned Iranian strikes on Qatar during the 40-day conflict between the United States, Israel, and Tehran.
The Qatar visit follows stops in Saudi Arabia and is expected to be followed by Türkiye, as Islamabad continues a series of consultations with key regional states amid ongoing tensions and discussions of a potential new round of negotiations.
