Paris 2024 Olympics: Airport strike looms on opening day
As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approach, the FO union at Aéroports de Paris (ADP) has announced a strike for Friday, July 26, the day of the Opening Ceremony.
This industrial action could significantly impact airport operations amid the influx of Olympic attendees and summer vacation travellers, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
The FO union, representing a minority of ADP employees, has issued the strike notice in response to what it deems insufficient wage adjustments.
The union is calling for an increase in the bonus outlined in a recent agreement from 300 euros to 1,000 euros, along with additional wage concessions. Despite a recent agreement reached between ADP management and the majority of unions on July 16, which led other unions to withdraw their strike notices, the FO union remains dissatisfied.
The planned strike is set to run from 5 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, until 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, coinciding with the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. This action could affect operations at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, Orly, and Beauvais airports.
Additionally, a "temporary no-fly zone" extending 150 km around Paris will be enforced from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on the day of the ceremony for security reasons. This measure, while anticipated, could exacerbate disruptions caused by the strike.
