Paris metro stabbings: Suspect arrested after three women attacked
On December 26, Paris authorities arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of stabbing three women on the capital’s metro, as end-of-year celebrations were underway.
The attacks occurred along Line 3, which runs through central Paris, at three separate stations: République, Arts et Métiers, and Opéra, all near the Marais district, Caliber.Az reports, citing French media.
The incidents took place between 4:15 pm and 4:45 pm local time. A journalist at République station witnessed emergency teams treating a woman injured in the leg, who appeared to be in shock.
Two of the victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third woman sought medical attention on her own. Paris police confirmed that none of the victims were in critical condition.
Using surveillance footage and mobile phone tracking, police located and arrested the suspect in Val d’Oise, north of Paris, at 6:55 pm — less than three hours after the first attack. Authorities praised the rapid response of investigators.
Paris police chief Patrice Faure highlighted “the reactivity and mobilisation” that led to the swift arrest, while Interior Minister Laurent Nunez commended the coordinated efforts of the police services involved.
Transport police have launched an investigation into attempted homicide and assault with a weapon. Security measures on the metro have been reinforced, with backup teams deployed along the line.
