Pashinyan's leadership shakeup: New appointments in Armenia’s Investigative, Revenue Committees
At a government session on November 28, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan approved appointments to two key positions.
Artur Poghosyan, formerly the deputy prosecutor general and head of the investigation department of the National Security Service, was appointed Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
In addition, Eduard Hakobyan, who had been serving as deputy finance minister since December 2022, was appointed Chairman of the State Revenue Committee. Hakobyan has had a long tenure at the Ministry of Finance, holding various positions since 2013.
These appointments follow the resignation of the previous heads of both departments, Argishti Kyaramyan, the former Chairman of the Investigative Committee, and Rustam Badasyan, the former head of the State Revenue Committee. Both resigned on November 18 at the request of Prime Minister Pashinyan, along with four other high-ranking officials.
In other developments, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed decrees for new appointments within the country's armed forces, based on recommendations from Prime Minister Pashinyan.
- Colonel Levon Davidyan has been appointed Commander of the Special Forces.
- Major General Alexander Tsakanyan has been named First Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff.
- Colonel Simon Nazaryan will now lead the 3rd Army Corps, and Colonel Gagik Poghosyan has been appointed Commander of the 5th Army Corps.
- Major General Albert Baghdadyan has been assigned to head the National Research University under Armenia's Ministry of Defense.
Furthermore, Armenian media reported that reservist training is scheduled in Armenia from February 4 to April 18, 2025. This draft decision has been submitted by the Armenian Defense Ministry for legal publication.
Earlier, Armenia had announced the mobilization of reservists from April 15 to July 15, a decision that was confirmed during a government meeting. Reservist training camps are regularly held for specific groups throughout Armenia.
