Pentagon signs contract with General Dynamics to supply tanks to Ukraine
The US Defense Department and General Dynamics Land Systems have signed a contract to produce M1A1 Abrams tanks for Ukraine for $27.1 million.
The number of tanks in the Pentagon message is not specified, Kommersant reports.
It follows from the document of the American Defense Department that tanks will be produced in the city of Lima, Ohio. The work is scheduled to be completed on September 29, 2023. Funds for the production of tanks were allocated as part of the Initiative to Promote the Security of Ukraine, according to which the Pentagon contracts with manufacturers of equipment, and does not provide it directly from its own reserves.
The Financial Times wrote on February 5 that the US Defense Department plans to send new Abrams tanks manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems to Ukraine. According to the publication, the company can produce about 12 tanks per month. On April 5, the Pentagon announced its intention to begin training Ukrainian servicemen in the use of Abrams in the near future.
