28 June 2022 03:32

The first case of monkeypox virus infection on the territory of Peru was registered in the capital city of Lima.

According to the newspaper El Comercio, the Peruvian Minister of Health Jorge Lopez announced this.

"A case of infection was registered in the capital," the newspaper quoted the minister as saying. "The patient passed all laboratory tests yesterday, the results of which confirmed the monkeypox." According to him, the infected person is a foreigner, he is currently isolated, and his condition is stable.

In May, Peruvian doctors isolated a local resident aged 70, who returned from Ecuador, with suspected infection with the monkeypox virus. Later, the diagnosis was not confirmed.
