Pfizer, Moderna to receive US approval for new anti-COVID boosters
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will approve new booster COVID-19 vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna in the coming days.
FDA may issue permission on September 11 while CDC on September 12. They are also expected to approve seasonal influenza vaccines for the current epidemic season and a vaccine against human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV). After approval by the FDA and CDC, producers will be able to ship the vaccines to pharmacies, hospitals and health insurance companies, Kommersant reports citing the US media.
The current COVID-19 vaccine booster distribution campaign will be the first one in the US after the emergency situation improved in May. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government itself purchased anti-COVID vaccinations from producers and distributed them for free vaccination to pharmacies, hospitals, insurance companies, etc., while this time the companies themselves will distribute them.
