Poland boosts energy independence with new Różańsku gas field
Poland has launched industrial production at the newly developed Różańsku gas field in Myślibórz County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, a project expected to increase national gas output by 130 million cubic metres annually.
Orlen estimates the field’s reserves at 1.2 billion cubic metres. The investment is linked to the expansion of the Dębno oil and gas field, which is projected to enhance production across other operational sites, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
At present, Poland produces around 3.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year, meeting roughly one-fifth of domestic demand. Orlen aims to raise this figure to 4 billion cubic metres annually by 2030. The Rużanska field is expected to operate for the next two decades.
Gas from the Różańsku field will primarily supply power plants in Kostrzyn nad Odrą and Gorzów Wielkopolski. Extracted oil and liquid sulfur, processed through a newly installed gas purification unit, will be directed to industrial applications, including fuel, plastics, and fertilizer production.
The development involved the modernization of three existing wells and the construction of a new pipeline linking Różańsku to Dębno. The facility was further upgraded with an 8 MW cogeneration unit, providing electricity and heat for industrial processes, with surplus energy fed into the national grid.
