Poland's largest defence company to restart tank production after over decade
Poland's largest defence industry company Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) has announced that it will soon resume the production of tanks.
This was announced by Arkadiusz Bąk, the acting chairman of the board of PGZ, also known as Polish Armaments Group, Caliber.Az reports referring to Polish media outlets.
The article recalls that Poland used to produce T-34, T-55, and T-72 tanks under Soviet license in the aftermath of World War II, later adding a modernised version of the T-72—the PT-91 to their production lines. Production of the PT-91 for the Polish Armed Forces ended in 2009, with the last tank rolling off the assembly line in 2002, destined for Malaysia.
“Talks on the production of the K2(PL) tanks are already in their final stage. Poland will soon begin manufacturing tanks at facilities owned by the Polish Armaments Group, right here in our country,” the agency quoted Bąk as saying.
PGZ is a state-owned defence conglomerate which concentrates several dozen production plants, service facilities and research centres crucial for the Polish defence industry under its company umbrella. It is one of the largest defence industry companies in Europe and has reached number 62 in the “Top 100 for 2024” ranking organised by Defense News.
