Poland scrambles jets as Russia strikes Ukraine intensively
On the morning of February 22, fighter jets and early-warning aircraft were scrambled in Poland in response to the activity of Russian strategic aviation and strikes on Ukrainian territory, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said in a statement on X.
According to the statement, all necessary forces and systems were deployed in line with standard procedures.
Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on heightened alert.
The military emphasized that these measures were preventive and aimed at protecting Poland’s airspace. No border violations were recorded. Later, aviation activity in Polish airspace ceased, and ground systems returned to normal operational status.
Earlier, Ukrainian Air Forces and Kyiv City Military Administration head Timur Tkachenko reported that on the night of February 21 to 22, Russian forces carried out massive airstrikes on Kyiv, using strike drones and missile.
