Polish PM arrives in Luanda ahead of EU–AU Summit
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has arrived in Luanda, where the 7th European Union–African Union Summit opens today, November 24.
The Polish leader is expected to present Warsaw’s position on the peace plan for Ukraine during the EU leaders’ discussions, per Polish media.
The summit is taking place in Angola’s capital, which is marking the 50th anniversary of its independence, and coincides with the country’s rotating chairmanship of the African Union. Leaders from 27 EU member states and 55 African nations are attending, focusing on cooperation in security, economic integration, trade, green development, digital transformation, migration, and social programmes.
The sessions will be chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also representing the EU. On the sidelines, EU heads of state and government will hold a special meeting dedicated to discussing the U.S. peace plan for ending the war in Ukraine.
Tusk is scheduled to speak during the first thematic session on Monday afternoon. The summit will continue until Tuesday, featuring a second thematic session and a closing meeting. The event coincides with the 25th anniversary of the EU–African Union partnership, established in 2000.
