Politico: EU discusses possible sanctions on 13 Chinese companies
The European Union is considering the possibility of including in the upcoming sanctions package against Russia 13 Chinese companies.
The decision on this issue depends on the results" of the EU-China summit on December 7-8 in Beijing, Politico reports via the representative of the organization.
As a high-ranking EU official said earlier in Brussels ahead of the summit, the bloc intends to raise the issue of fighting the circumvention of sanctions against Russia.
However, any move by Brussels to impose sanctions against Chinese companies would worsen the already fragile relations between the EU and China, the paper said.
Recently, bilateral ties have been complicated by Beijing's imposition of controls on critical minerals, an EU investigation into electric cars produced in China, as well as European attempts to influence China strategically.
The previous face-to-face summit between the EU and China took place in 2019.
