President Ilham Aliyev visits grave of academician Zarifa Aliyeva
On April 28, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the grave of an outstanding ophthalmologist, and academician Zarifa Aliyeva in the Alley of Honor.
The head of state laid flowers on the grave of the wife of national leader Heydar Aliyev and honored her memory, Caliber.Az reports citing the presidential website.
Ilham Aliyev paid respect to the prominent statesman Aziz Aliyev and Professor Tamerlan Aliyev, and laid flowers on their graves.

It should be noted that today marks the 100th anniversary of Zarifa Aliyeva.
She was a prominent Azerbaijani scientist, Honoured Scientist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Full Member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
Zarifa Aliyeva was born on April 28, 1923 in Sharur region of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Professor Zarifa Aliyeva lived a fruitful life and contributed greatly to the development of the medical industry in our country through her scientific activity.
The scientific works of Aliyeva, the successful result of long-lasting research she conducted in the field of topical problems of ophthalmology, were always highly valued.
Zarifa Aliyeva has great services in the development of ophthalmology in Azerbaijan. She has co-authored many important researches devoted to trachoma, the eye disease previously widespread in Azerbaijan, eye diseases related to professional activity in the chemical and electronic industries, as well modern problems of ophthalmology.
Academician Zarifa Aliyeva was a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Society of Ophthalmologists, Soviet Peace Protection Committee, Board of the Azerbaijan Society of Ophthalmology, member of the editorial board of the journal "Bulletin of Ophthalmology" (Moscow).
In 1981 she was awarded the Prize named after M.I.Averbakh of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR for high achievements.
Zarifa Aliyeva passed away on April 15, 1985, in Moscow and was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. In 1994, her body was brought to Baku and buried in the Alley of Honours next to her father's grave.
Azerbaijan Embassy in Moscow in cooperation with the Russia Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation held the event on her 100th anniversary.
Representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Moscow, the Russian public and Diaspora, activists of the Azerbaijan Youth Union of Russia, and Azerbaijani students studying in Moscow attended the event, APA Moscow correspondent reports.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Polad Bulbuloglu spoke about Zarifa Aliyeva's contribution as a scientist to the development of ophthalmology in Azerbaijan. Noting that he was lucky to know her personally, the ambassador underlined that Zarifa Aliyeva was a well-rounded and bright person, who loved music, culture, and art, played the piano herself, and, being a great doctor, helped a lot of people.
The ambassador also informed the guests that a number of events were held these days in Moscow to mark the 100th anniversary of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev.
First Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva shared a post on the occasion of Zarifa Aliyeva's birthday on her official Instagram account.
According to Caliber.Az, the post reads:
"Today is the 100th birthday of Zarifa Aliyeva. I, like everyone who knew this wonderful, kind, sincere Person, keep her bright image in my memory!".
