Azerbaijiani, Turkmen presidents tour Bulbul house-museum in Shusha PHOTO
Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan visited the Bulbul House-Museum in Shusha on June 23.
Member of Parliament Polad Bulbuloglou briefed the two presidents on the history of the museum. He noted that the house, where his father, the prominent Azerbaijani singer Bulbul, was born and spent his childhood, was converted into a museum in 1982 following a decision by the Executive Committee of the Shusha City Council of People's Deputies, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
Bulbuloglou said that the building was renovated in 1982–1983, a museum exhibition was established inside, and an administrative building was constructed in front of it.
Following the occupation of Shusha, the museum ceased operations after being subjected to Armenian vandalism. After the city was liberated by Azerbaijan, the house-museum was restored as part of broader restoration efforts involving historical and cultural monuments in Shusha. A new bust of Bulbul was also erected in the museum's courtyard.
Furthermore, the bust, which was vandalised during the occupation of Shusha, is also kept as tangible evidence of the crimes committed against the Azerbaijani cultural heritage by the Armenian occupiers.
