Aliyev: Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan ties built on shared history, culture, values
Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are rooted in shared history, culture, language and moral values and have developed into a strategic alliance, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
Speaking in an interview with Uzbekistan’s national news agency UzA, Aliyev said ties between the two countries were also founded on the unity, solidarity and “deep mutual sympathy” of their peoples, values passed down through generations, Azertag reports.
"Relations built on this solid foundation have entered a stage of unprecedented development in recent years, risen to the highest level — that of alliance — and acquired entirely new content," he added.
Aliyev also highlighted the role of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), saying “Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan view the OTS not only as a platform for interstate cooperation, but also as an important association that carries our shared history, culture and spiritual values into the future."
The president said the two countries’ contribution to political dialogue, economic cooperation, transport and logistics connectivity, as well as education, science, culture and humanitarian affairs within the OTS was helping deepen integration among Turkic states.
